skin cancer
Melanoma is the most common cancer in young Australians.
It makes up 15% of cancers diagnosed in young people in Australia.
The rates of skin cancer in Australia are some of the highest in the world.
There are three main types of skin cancers – squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma and melanoma.
Protect yourself from skin cancer:
Wear broad spectrum sunscreen (at least SPF30 and water resistant) always
Wear a hat and sunglasses
Wear clothing that is protective from the sun
Fake tan is safer than a real tan
Reduce sun exposure by staying in the shade.
Sunscreen is also good for preventing skin damage with age. If you work outside make sure you’re following sun prevention measures at work.
Have a skin check with your doctor regularly and if ever worried about any skin lesions.
